About 2/3 of the way back from the front of the seat, underneath each edge, is a 14 mm nut. Loosen each nut, (they're captive, so they won't come off), slide them forward, (they fit in some slots on brackets welded to the frame), slide the seat back, (there is a tongue that fits into a socket at the front), and pull the seat up and off.
    Here is a wiring diagram,

Well, found the issue. Apparently my fuse box was super corroded and wasn't getting good contact with the fuses. If I pushed in on them I could get the bike started. I looked into getting another fuse box from a bike boneyard but they won't pull one and sacrifice the rest of the wiring on the bike so I am thinking just doing in-line fuses as a replacement and doing away with the fuse box. thoughts anyone?

You could do a continuity check between the - side of the battery and somewhere on the frame away from the battery. or run a jumper wire from the - side of the battery to another point on the frame. I ran into a problem like this when i put coated bars on one of my bikes. The electric starter wouldnt work without a jumper. just an idea. Hope it helps you.
          Hey Maynard,
I think you just solved my problem. I just did the same thing yesterday, put some coated bars on the bike and now wont start, not starter at all! Apparently the switch grounds through the bars? how did you make your jumper set up to overcome this???? Thankxxxx

Just what a bad connection does............till it gets hot enough for the all important smoke to escape.

Unfortunately I couldn't just swap them becyase the part store was closed already. As far as the wiring out of the key switch, it seems fine. However I peeked under the seat and there is a melted connector there with green wires. Might that e the issue? On another note how do I even pop the seat up?
A tall nut on each side of seat on underside just past the midpoint of seat. Loosen each one until they nut/bolt assembly slides forward. Once seat is off, you'll see how that works to re-install.

Just remove the right-side controls and wrap a piece of emory or crocus cloth around bar and remove all the paint or powder coating up as far as where control clamps to bars. You'll also find your throttle tube will rotate easier with all that paint cleaned off. Throttle tube and bar-end should be left dry with NO lube on either for continuing smooth operation.
