Looking at these two tires, and the price difference is pretty minimal. I have the K657 Sport Challengers on right now, but the K671's with the extra siping look interesting.
Anyone running the Kenda K671??

I like them, been running them for a year now. I will be getting a set of those for the XJ this winter. That looks like a good price.

Kenda on his, Barracudas on my 83. They last forever but I won't buy them again. These were the Challengers.Last edited by donebysunday; 05-29-2013, 04:09 PM.76 XS650 C ROADSTER

kenda tires
I looked at them last year when I replaced the tires on my '80 xs11 special. the shop tried 3 of them and they were all egg shaped so I passed. bought the shinko 712's, about the same price, pretty decent tires for the money. only complaint with the 712's is the full center groove on the front makes it "hunt" and it follows grooves and ridges in the roadway. I need new tires again and am looking at the shinko 230's. have read many good reviews about them, anybody here tried them yet? thanksComment

The Shinko 777s have a better "full" tread. I havent used them yet but have heard good things. Ill be putting them on my XJ 650 in the next month or so. I have the 712s on my 11 and like them.Nate

I too am ready to purchase a set of tires (17" rear for me). Im going with the Shinko 712 in the rear. I was on the fence about getting the 712 for the front, after reading 650Mark's comment I think I'll buy another Avon AM41 Venom. Its lasted 3 seasons, isnt cupped much and is just starting to show some dry cracks. Of course its at the wear bars too so all in all I think it has been a great front tire and still retains its handling very well worn.
The rear Im replacing is a ME88 by Metzler. Not sure how many miles I got on it but dont think its worth the additional money vs any additional milage I might have gotten. It was a good performer but just like any other tire, once it gets worn in the center it makes the bike move in corners.Last edited by WMarshy; 05-30-2013, 07:21 AM.'79 XS11 F

my observation about the shinko 712 front tire's "hunting" also applies to most any other relatively skinny front tire with a full center groove in the tread. not picking on shinko at all. on many of my fat tired (130/70-16) v-twin cruisers any full groove in the front tire did not produce any hunting regardless of brand.Comment

Tires are on order... got the 712 for the rear and the Avon Venom for the front but decided to try the 110/90-19 this time. I have a 100/90 curently, I believe it will fit fine.
I went back and fourth a few time on what to buy for the front. Narrowed it down to the Metzler ME880 (110/90) or the ME888 (100/90). Between the ME's and the Avon, the avon was the cheapest and had the most reviews... the 888the was tempting but I bring myself to buy it knowing how well the Avon handles.Last edited by WMarshy; 06-02-2013, 08:49 AM.'79 XS11 F

front tires
I would also like a wider front tire on my bike but I've read that the 110/90-19 is just wide enough to cause mounting problems as you must deflate it to install/remove the front wheel. maybe not a big deal, dunno. I think I've narrowed down my tire choices to the shinko 230's or the 777's. both get many good reviews and cost just a little more than the 712's.Comment
