Howdy Ya'll. I have just completed moving my household from Idaho to Grand Junction, Colorado. It is great here and I can't wait to ride up Hiway 70 towards Denver. Beautiful scenery abounds. To the problem at hand: after sitting for a couple of months I finally got to ride it this afternoon. It is a bit doggy at lower RPMS but really pulls at 3K and above. I have pulled the plugs and found 1 & 4 to be heavily sooted and 2&3 looked just a shade rich. I plan on pulling the carbs and cleaning them, etc., but I wonder if I need to rejet due to the recent 2500 feet of elevation gain. I have harley mufflers and pod filters and stock jets in the carbs. Any thoughts/recommendations on the matter will be appreciated.

Lucky you have good members nearby.

Any chance you will be adding the airbox or exhaust back?

Unfortunately, I left half of the air box, the seat, and most of the exhaust system in the pasture I found the bike in. They were basically trashed. I hope to get out and about this summer and meet some XSers.

Gunny just clean the carbs first before changing anything..your description leads me to think they may just be gunked up. Some Seafoam in a tank can help loosen things while you wait to pull for deep cleaning.

Welcome to the western slope of Colo.!..........and a big Thanks for your service! No jet change is needed with the vacuum operated slides in these carbs. Send me a private message (PM) with your # if you like, and I'll give you a call and come have a look-see at what you got and a starting point. Rainy crappy weather coming up........a man cave is a plus....

Thank you for the "Welcome" motoman. Seafoam is being run through the fuel system as we speak. I am still trying to unpack so I can get stuff out of the way in my shed and have an area to work in. I will definitely take you up on your offer as soon as I can. Clyde

Figured the chances of you seein' this here is good, so, to let you know there's the annual vintage motorcycle show in Palisade Sat. 1st of June. Several have quite the collection and bring a few out for the show. I'll be there, but don't intend to put either of my "riders" in.
