79XS1100 Black engine?

Over here in Europe all sold XS where coming with black engines.

hmmmm

this makes me wonder about mine. mine is also an early 79SF, with a black motor. i cant stand the paint job, btw... i always assumed a PO got carried away with a spray can, as there are several overspray spots...

Over you you also have black engines too. The all in black Midnight Special models. Motor, carbs and final drive all in black. Our motors are black. Carbs and final drive are silver. Only the European XS1.1 Sport model is an all in black one too.

early ser number.. black jugs
later ser number same year.. alum


My uncle says it came that way... maybe it was a "roll out" deal on the early ones off the line?

My buddy owns a XS the ser# are "real" #'s for the last four digits. Before there are all 0's and the engine is black, carbs and final drive silver. My one is an '81 1.1Sport and it's all in black.
Another buddy in Detroit, Mich., owned an XS 11 Midnight Special all in silver?!?!?!?! Japanease logic??????? :-)
