  • Fifth gear won't slide out

Progress is being made and I think I have identified the main culpret of my second gear shift problem. I removed shift fork one and it is wore on one side to the point that there is a round gear imprint about an 1/8th inch deep. One problem I do have is removing 5th gear. It slid over far enough for me to get the shift fork out, but it won't slide all the way out. What did I forget to do? Thanks.

Question-Is 5th gear supposed to slide out through the case on the left or is it supposed to fall straight down through the bottom?

        Hey there Pshaw,

5th is supposed to slide out the side of the engine once you've removed the bearing/oil cap from the shaft. You might need to do a little wiggling of the shaft to get the gear to fit into the hole, also, the shift fork may be keeping it from sliding out, make sure the shift fork isn't hanging up on it.

As for the shift fork, they do have a cutout shaped to fit the gears, so are you sure you're seeing excessive wear on the fork, or just the original channel cutout to the fork tongs!?!?
