Just a BIG thanks to LoHo for sending me an exhaust valve. I just got home from a 4000 mile roadtrip through the western states, and when I did a nice box was sitting here with a good used intake valve in it. Took it down to my workshop and slid it into the head. Went in just like butter and man it was as if it was factory installed! It seated perfectly and I don't think I even need to lap it in! Will pour some methyl alcohol in there tomorrow and see if she's tight, if not I WILL lap it in. LoHo you rock!!!

I think he was referring to your first sentence stating an exhaust valve. Later you called it an intake valve.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Just trying to build up some bike Karma (in case my karma runs over your dogma).
Yeah, I had a mini panic when I saw "exhaust", because that ain't what I boxed up...but all is well, and I am glad you are happy."Time is the greatest teacher; unfortunately, it kills all of its students."

More than happy LH! I lapped it in, even though it sealed without any lapping, and it's waiting for my buddy Phil to come over and help me reinstall the head, as I don't have 3 hands to deal with the cam chain as I put the head down.Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. When I skimmed the original post, I thought it went like this:
Big thanks for the exhaust valve. I got it installed and everything buttoned back up. She fired right up, so I took 'er for a little spin. Well, one thing led to another and my trip around the block turned into a 4000 mile road-trip. But it runs like a top! One of the fascinating things about these bikes is how much joy we get from just getting them back to normal. Granted, in many cases getting one of these old girls back into shape is a major task, but I feel so accomplished just getting her ride-able after being disappointed for so long.
And look how happy Court is after just getting a valve that does its job...what simple creatures we are."Time is the greatest teacher; unfortunately, it kills all of its students."
