    What's lurking under your seat?

    Early this morning I started pulling the hardware off my seat so I could bring it to the upholsterer today. I knew there was some rust on the bottom but I was shocked at how much was under the foam.

    I have never de-rusted anything before but a quick search recommended The Works toilet bowl cleaner. I had some so gave it a small test soak. After about 20 minutes it was looking promising so I ran and picked up 4 more bottles. 3 went into a 5 gallon bucket then I filled it to the top with water.

    About an hour later and a little scrubbing it was pretty much done. There were still a few small spots but I had to get to my seat guy. 2 coats of primer and a couple coats of Rustoleum engine enamel that I had sitting around and it was ready to go.

      Wow! Toilet scrub did that? How did you rinse it?
      "The Hooligan" XJ1100, Virago Gauge Pods, Screaming Eagle Mufflers, K&N Filter, hand made rear fender, side covers, and solo seat, round bar conversion, small headlight, tail light, and cat eye turn signals, chip fuses, rewired the right way.

          That was a knee slapper.

            Baking soda and water to neutralize the acid then painted right away before it could flash rust.

              Forgot that I took a picture of the foam. Lots of rust came off with it.
