Pulling Massive Fairing

I just picked up my first XS11, I say first cause I have a feeling I will be playing with these bikes a while as this thing is Bad-A! haha.

So, I am pulling the touring gear off the bike and converting it to a cafe monster. I've already removed the rear sissybar with luggage rack, saddle bags and rear fender. I am now at the point where I need to pull this giant ferring off the front...

Two questions:
1- It appears I need to pull the front wheel and fender to get the frame off the forks, anyone done this before and can confirm?
2- Does anyone know what brand this monster is? It will be for sale soon with all the wiring and goodies and I want to list it correctly.

Almost every fairing that I've seen attaches to the frame under the steering neck. ( and maybe a mounting point under the gauges as well)
You should be able to unbolt the fairing itself from the mounting frame then unbolt the mounting frame from the bike.

PICS please. Some of us here would love to get our hands on a complete touring package. (or just parts from it)

Yeah there are two bolts under the gauges and two more on the frame in front of the exhaust. It looks like the frame for the ferring wraps around the front of the forks and goes back past the motor, and also has a hoop that wraps behind the forks. This is what is making me think I will need to pull the wheel to get that frame off.

Thanks for the welcome! and I am being very careful not to damage anything, all of this touring equipment is in excellent shape. I bought the bike from the original owner, it had been sitting in a heated garage for the last 15 years and only has 11k miles on it! Hopefully all this gear will go to a good home and make someone a really nice touring bike, just not my style haha.

As it's a '78, you have a Pacifico fairing. You do NOT need to pull the forks, but it is a bit of work to get some of it off.
There should be two bolts on the underside of the front of that need to be removed, and then the four bolts, two front, two rear that hold the main part together. The lower frame of the fairing is held on with two 10mm bolts on the downtubes, and the upper/front frame is held on with two 8mm bolts on the front of the neck.
Loosen the lower mount AFTER you have the bolts out, and slide the fairing forward to remove it from the frame. You can now get to the upper mount bolts that are under the gauges to remove the upper frame. If the "lowers" are on the fairing, you will need to pull them before doing anything else. They slide in between the fairing and the lower frame, so loosen the bolts as above, pull lowers, then the fairing.
Welcome to the madness....
Oh, and that fairing is BIG, but it was the BEST (IMHO) because it didn't cut the top speed more than 5MPH over no fairing.

I googled some images and it appears you're right, looks like those pacificos. and yeah mine has the lower sections on it too. Soundss like a nicely wedged together puzzle of a ferring haha.

It is good to know I wont have to mess with pulling the wheel off too. I hate having to remove and screw around with systems completely unrelated to the other task you want to do... dunno why I keep buying old british cars and old bikes haha.

Thanks for the reminder, I already have the harness disconnected from the ferring. Removing the harness pig tail form the bike's harness will be fun.

Thank you both for the fast tips and advice! I'll have some pics up in about 5 hours when I get home from work. Proly wont be able to work on pulling it tonight though cause I have to go to my other job right after that lol. Hoping to have some fully removed pics and updates this weekend!

So the whole set up that I am pulling to sell includes:

-full front ferring, complete with lower skirts
-auxiliary riding lights on separate switch
-pioneer radio mounted with rain cover and detachable face, pioneer speakers
-no cracks, have key for both storage compartments, full complete frame
-complete factory wire harness and pig tail for the bike side too
-Running boards with forward control for foot brake and highway bars
-rear luggage rack/sissy bar. seat rest has zip up pouch in back, antenna for radio mounted to rack as well
-Saddleman matching saddle bags
- also have the front fender, and rear fender and light assy
*All hardware for everything mentioned included.
*All the chrome and trim is in excellent condition. PM me to talk about a deal.

I'm going out there now to finish pulling the front ferring. Hope this will make someone a nice set up they've been looking for. I'll post more pics when I have everything removed in better lighting!

I have never seen a Pacifico cut down like that. Looks nice, but windscreen is virtually nonexistant. Great for short town runs where you want music and carrying capacity.

Work fast boys, wont last. Those are in good condition.

Its funny, I like a nice cafe bike as much as the next guy, but like watching sausage being made, hate to see it being done.

hahaa. Yeah I know, I hate to strip such a perfectly preserved bike, but if all the parts go to good use on other bikes I feel it's not a complete sin lol. I'm gunna do a clean cafe build up too, will definitely be tasteful and preserve the soul of the bike.

And there actually isn't a wind screen up there, I believe that bolts over the black area at the top there. Pretty much the only option that wasn't put on this bike ha.
