    I ordered the 712s F and R but ended up the front was wrong size. I had ordered 110/90 -19 for the front. WRONG! Should have been 100/90. Yamaha dealer said I had the wrong size so ended up having to buy a Dunlop. They said fender would rub so I had not choice but to get the Dunlop. The rear Shinko was ok.
    Now I have to pay $7 to return for credit even though I am ordering new set for my Yamaha VStar. They're Shinko Tourmasters.
    The size they say will fit is 170 80 15 for the rear and 130 90 16 in the front. But I'm not going by their measurements, from now on I'm going to my bike and get the size off the existing tires. Not ganna take a chance on getting wrong size.

    My Yamaha dealer charges $100 for R&R. Is that reasonable? I think it is.

    $100 is a bit steep for 2 tires if you bring the rims in, if you being the whole bike then it isn't bad.

    I will say though. A good number of people do put 110/90-19 and don't have problems.

      No rims. The whole bike. Rims only at Road Rider is $40. So for $60 more I don't have to do anything except drive in and out.
      When I measured the 110/90 it's obvious the fender will not fit. Do I have a narrower fender? The fender looks stock, so have no idea.

        Not sure why you're having a clearance issue, as stated above, a 110 can be used, never heard of anyone not having room under the fender before.

          I've stuffed a 110 on other Yamaha motorcycles but never on a xs11. The only thing I had to do was remove the front fender so I could twist the forks to slip the wheel back in. That was it.

          As for the other sizes you listed that they said would fit I have questions. I thought all tire sizes were either in metric or inch's and was all the same. So when they say 170 80 15 for the rear and 130 90 16 in the front! I'm like are you sure? Cause if your paying a fee for a return as it is and you do order these sizes and they are wrong are you gonna have to pay that fee again cause it was their mistake? JAT. And have you checked out http://www.chaparral-racing.com/ They have some good price's on tires.

            Put the 110 on. I have been using Metzler 110/90V-19 tires for years. Just let the air out of it before you try to slip it up between the fork legs and it will go between the narrow part with a push. No clearance probs after that.

              I have the 110/90 Shinko on my 79 Special, yes it is close to the fender but doesn't rub. Whoever tried installing your front tire didn't try hard enough. They probably looked at the numbers and said this is the wrong tire. Other brands of the 110/90 may be a bit wider and will not fit but the Shinko 712 does.

              Edit: The measurement of a tire empty of air and a tire inflated on a skinny rim will differ, the latter will be narrower.

                I would be very leary of allowing a dealer to work on my bike. Even r&r on tires can be screwed up, and a dealer can do that easily on these bikes. They obviously don't know what they are talking about with tire size. Factory size tires on my 1980 Special is: front= 100/90-19, rear= 130/90/16. Some folks put a 17" on the rear. Be warned, the dealer is not your friend with these bikes!

                  I agree, most dealers either won't work on older bikes, don't know how to work on older bikes, but if they can't master simple tire installation on any make of bike, they are in the wrong profession for sure. they should try their hand at McDonalds.

                    Call me a penny pincher or a cheap azz, but to save $60 I'd pull the wheels off myself and take them in to get changed and balanced and desposed of.
                    That way when I put the wheels back on, I know with 100% certainty that EVERYTHING should be where it is and aligned & torqued properly.

                    So what happens when you drive off from the dealer and something doesn't quite "feel" right with the handling/braking? Take it back and have them 'look' at it? NO THANKS.

                    Also, I'm with everyone else here, the 110 should fit. Haven't done it myself, but I haven't heard ANY complaints about it either.

                    I'd hate to ask how much the dealer charged you for that Dunlop.

                    Should have posted up here first and we could have helped you a little bit with this.

                      I don't see in the initial post that the dealer DID try to mount the tire... I see they SAID it wouldn't fit.

                      edielo, can you clarify that?

                      If they didn't try to mount it, and we know it WILL fit based on no one ever having one NOT fit, you have a fair case to tell them you never should have needed a different tire.

                      The Dunlop (404?) is a more expensive tire than the 712 I suspect as well. Not that the dealer was trying to make a sale, but in their ignorant way of being helpful they didn't listen to the expert on the bike (you) and I would bring it up if it were me.

                        the dealer was correct in that the XS11 stock front tire size is 100/90-19.
                        The dealer was mistaken when claiming that a 110/90-19 will rub although it's admittedly a real close fit.
                        Many XS11 riders have chosen to go one size up to a 110/90-19 and have ridden them from new to worn out with no problem.
                        Me, I'd change dealers.

                          Does the 110 change the odomenter/speedo reading at all? Curious about that.
                          Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.

                            Yes it does, on the Special it actually corrects the otherwise fast reading speedometer but the odometer is now slightly off with less distance recorded, YMMV.

                              I learn something everyday...I thought 110 was the width, not height(which would change speedo reading)....
