As was stated it works well as long as the master cylinder isn't FUBAR too. I have used the grease gun trick to get calipers apart that shouldn't have come apart. It is a bit messy but quite effective.

Brake rebuild tech tip
We had quite a discussion on this thread http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41610 concerning the merits of grease and their use on and in the calipers and cylinders.
I am still of the opinion that the permatex green stuff should not be used on anything inside these components due to brake fluid compatibility. I am still not 100% sure of what it does or not do to rubber and as we all know each rebuild kit vendor may use a different type of rubber within the components sold. I am sure about the red rubber grease. I used it earlier this year on my master cylinders and calipers, coating everything inside and out with the red rubber grease. I used the AGS sylglide lubricant on my pins and where the backside of the pads touch the outside of the calipers and I have never experienced better brakes since owning this bike brand new. I will comment that the front brakes took a bit longer to bleed, several days to be honest, however they did finally harden up and I have no brake drag now.
Each to his own but I would strongly advise that this stuff be included in the tip as an option.2 - 80 LGs bought one new
