  • Hello Everyone !!:) Could someone help me with an answer ?

I have a 1979 XS 11000 special. , The problem is a serious sounding, loud noise/s coming from what seems like the right side if your sitting on the bike. It sounds like a blender full of nuts and bolts being run..

It doesn't do it all the time, it mostly happens at about 1500 to 5000 RPM and then it just stops, until you switch gears and start to accelerate in the next gear.

Well, I hope someone here can point me in the proper direciton get this fixed..

    Thank you

You likely have the vacuum hose coming from the ignition advance (behind that cover) hooked to the wrong spot. It belongs on the #2 carb (motor side has a nipple), not the nipple on the black rubber intake boots. If it is hooked to the rubber intake boot it will pulsate hard at low rpm and sound bad. Just move the vacuum line and plug the rubber nipple on the intakr boot if you dont need it o run your vacuum operated fuel valve.

      Your OTHER right, Wade.

Alternator or clutch, take your pick and open the hatch.
If you open the clutch, park the bike on the side stand, with the stand down in a deprssion, and the oil won't run out.
If you open the alternator, don't remove the three centermost screws. They hold the coil pack to the cover.
And Marshy has a good idea, you should check the advance mechanism for free play while your checking things.
Let us know what you find.

The right side has the clutch and the alternator however if it's charging properly and the clutch is working right who knows.

The noise you speak of is idicative of a cam chain out of adjustment. See if you can narrow down the location a bit closer than just the left side.

Will it do it when you run through the gears on the center stand?

Sounds like a second gear issue to me. Right side, Blender full of nuts and bolts, and most importantly happens at about 1500 to 5000 RPM and then it just stops, until you switch gears and start to accelerate in the next gear. I would check it out a bit.

                  Engine Parts Noise

                  Hi Greg,

Havent had a chance to get the side cover off yet, hoping to sometime lat er this evening.

Will let you know what I find asap !!

                  Thanks again ~
