  • Mangled jet...usable?

A friend of mine was foolishly asking bike advice from me, and I want to make sure I was correct.

He was cleaning his gummed up carbs and mangled the screw slot of one of his main jets. The oriface and threads are fine. I told him the mangled screw slot should make no difference to fuel level or metering, and he believed me. Was I correct?

I am sure someone more knowledgable in fluid dynamics will contradict me, but I say yes it should be fine (DAMHIKIJK).

As long as no part of the mangle gets in the way of the flow. If it does he could put it on a grinder very lightly to take down the mangled part, write down the size. Cut new slot in it and use a screwdriver that fits the slot. Impact drivers work a treat on these stuck jets. I cut down a slotted impact slot driver for the pilots ( always soak in your favorite oil/vanish remover ) have not messed up a pilot since.
