12V Accessory Socket Wiring

I am going to install a 12V Accessory Socket in my Fairing this weekend and was wondering where I can tie the wiring into so that it doesn't have power until after the bike is on or at least the key is on.

I am hoping to change the Fuse Block this weekend as well with one I got from TC - Thank you.

I hope to get some pics up this weekend also.

There should be an factory unused red wire in the headlight bucket for 'accessory' connections, but it's unswitched (always hot). If you want a switched hot, you'll have to tap into the brown wire coming from the ignition switch that goes to the fusebox. Whichever you decide to do, I'd highly recommend installing an inline fuse to protect the wiring. Determine what the current draw is on whatever you plan to plug in is, then add 20% for inrush current. Use a fuse no smaller than that number, but no larger than the next size up.

That brown wire is the main supply for the entire bike, so make sure your connection is excellent...

When I put my socket into my fairing I wanted to be able to use it to run small air compressor if the need arose. So I ran a separate 12 gauge wire from the batter to it with a 15 amp fuse. It is always hot, but then you can let your phone charge if you are sitting somewhere bs'ing with people or whatever.

The 79 Special should have an unused blue wire with a female bullet connector in the headlight bucket which is keyed power.

Yup, those are for the front running lights, so it is wired into the lighting circuit.
