  • My time is up

Time to stop riding my G for now:

I was hoping to wait long enough to get the spark plug caps in so I can get the SG up and running, but alas, that tire can go anymore.

So, I must once again 'borrow' parts off one to fix the other.

Dude you must have missed a few of the earlier "Timer" bells! That is plumb dangerous to take it to that level of wear. I know sometimes life needs one to make choices that would not normally be made. You got away with it this time, please do not do it again.
How come all the little rubber tits are still on the tire? Is it fairly new but badly wearing as that could be a sign of other issues as well unless you just like doing burnouts....like me.

I knew it was getting there and everyday I'd look at what was there (without a full 360 rotation) and say okay.
I thought it best to put it on the centerstand and do a 360 look. Glad I did.

The tire isn't that new. Put it on 4/28/12 @ 51155 miles and I now have 63445 miles, so not too bad. (12K)

As far as the rubber tits, My driving is ALL interstate about 60 miles a day 5 days a week.

Not many twisties around here, so I don't get a chance to lean it over too much.

I had one that was looking decent, then we (SWOXS group) went on a 300 mile group ride. When I got home I saw my rear tire had a spot like that.

Yup - I was gonna stretch it some at XS East last year on this:

But Greg made me buy a new tire cuz he isn't trained in Emergency Medicine

Tod was OK with it though because he misses the excitement. Harry just wanted to take pictures afterwards

I forgot to mention that it's a Shinko 712 and if you look close to the right edge of the exposed cords, you can see the circle area that was/is the tire plug that I put in the tire 9 months ago.
I know some of you don't like tire plugs, but it was an almost new tire and I was on my way to work and had to do something.
I think I got my money out of this one!
                Time to buy another.

Yup exactly the reasons to not ride a tire to this point. Tires have tread wear markers on them. Of course each tire has it's own markings, but once you are down to the indicators it is time to be ready to replace it.
Every one will have an opinion on this but it is similar to the "Old" tire thing. It is what you believe that counts when dollars are at stake.
Personally a new tire when it is needed is far cheaper than paying hospital bills at the very least, and leaving your family fatherless (or motherless in some cases).
If a tire is run to the point it shows threads of the casing, someone is not doing their part of the job of staying alive. St Peter of course will direct them as to which way to go.

No wonder it wore out there. The weight of the plug upset the balance, and made that portion of the tire pound the pavement, which wore the tire more.
You should have rebalanced the tire after the plug insertion.

                      +

looks like u need to ride in more circles or maybe they should add more rubber to the tire center. i hate it when the side tread looks like its good for another 5k+ but the center is gone.
