  • Where is the silly Neutral switch???

Ok. I SHOULD know were the stupid neutral switch is: bottom of the engine, left side, forward of the sift lever, facing downward.

But for the LIFE of me, I can't find the bloody thing!

Needless to say, my neutral light has been come intermittent and finally quit working a few weeks ago. I would really like to fix it, but for some reason, the stupid thing appears to be invisible on my bike. Does anyone have any pictures of this silly thing INSTALLED so I can see what the engine neighborhood looks like?

    Thanks!

    Hey Clint,

This is a photo from the Dremel fix tip:

It's from an XJ, so that large cylinder you see hanging off the lower right corner is the oil level sensor. Follow the frame and tranny pan upwards towards the front..right side as looking at the photo, will be left side of engine when right side up. About even with the oil pump screen, there's a curve/indentation in the shape of the tranny pan...that is where the neutral light switch is on the engine case, not on the tranny pan. See the shift drum in the photo....and a piece that is still bolted there near the edge of the case.

          Here's another view for ya:

I separated my nuetral wire and switch from the pickup coil harness and waterproofed it with a spark plug boot and a length of vacuum hose:

technically, it's not a switch, but an indicator(at least in my 79), some call it a dummy light ....all it does is ground out to the frame when in neutral

The part that makes the indicator light turn on is a switch. Buried on the bottom of the engine that I have not been able to find...
