  • SS Brake Lines

Do the banjo fittings on the ends of the brake lines just screw off so they can be used on new ubiversal stainless braided lines (with new crush washers) ? If not, does anyone know the size of the banjo fittings on the 78 XS1100 (width and diameter) ?

Finally getting around to replacing the rubber hoses.

    Thanks,.

Nope. Everything is crimped together and the lines are not able to be disassembled. You need to buy new ends.

There are two types of SS lines, first type is a SS line of any given length with threads on each end where any type of banjo fitting can be attached to make fit your application. The second type is a crimp on permanent banjo fitting which is non removable, made custom for your application.

Canadians - Princess Auto hydraulic lines - brake lines??

So my fellow Canadians, has anyone ever wandered in to a Princess Auto shop and looked in their hydraulic hose/fitting section? Fred, Rasputin, you guys don't miss many tricks, are there compatible fittings there and the hydraulic hose to create brake lines for our Xs's? I was thinking about this at 2 this morning in one of those can't sleep times old farts seem to have.
Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.

Don't know about Canada but there are a lot of chain places down here that shy away from "knowingly" making/providing brake lines due to legal liability reasons.

            Hi Courtney,
I like and buy stuff at Princess Auto. There is the odd nugget of real value in there and quite a lot of bargains too. I would not dream of using brake lines from there ...so have never looked

I hear you Phil about the caution side of things, but the pressures hydraulics generate leave no doubt that the lines can handle our piddly efforts by hand squeezing. I was just curious as to whether they actually have the fittings for the ends, since they custom make hose length lines for free if you are buying the hose and fittings from them??? I know I used their lines on my VW motors for filters and coolers back in my HiPer VW bug motors.
