Has anyone used these? And if so, how did you like them?

I put a set on a 1980 Honda 650. Went on easily and worked pretty well.



Two fairly minor issues:

1. The foot pedals are, necessarily, pretty long. Can flex a bit when you depress the brake or shift. Takes a little getting used to.

2. The mechanism for getting to the mid control points is two pretty long threaded shafts. Can't think of another way but it's a little clunky.

If you do a search on forward controls you will find a few previous threads. People generally like the forward controls, but as much for the floorboards as for the controls themselves. Floorboard are more comfortable for long hauls than the stock pegs.

Having said that, and given the scarcity of bolt-on controls that fit the 1100s, there are a couple of alternatives. One is to go to a later-model, more comfortable peg such as the Honda 1500 series. These can be swapped in with minor work. Another option, which I went to on my XJ, is to go with HD floorboards and a heel/toe shifter from an early Honda. (Mine came from a Honda 90 trail bike.) At least one person had adapted forward controls from another bike, more work but doable. As Tkat says, there is nothing sacred about metal.

So, if you are looking for increased comfort, there are a couple options. Forward controls are always in demand but scarce. People who have them generally like them, but the units appeal more to long-haul riders than sporting riders as the forward units add linkages that can detract from really crisp shifting, unless you have a heel/toe shifter.
