  • '79 xs1100 fuel line 'T' splitter issues

Well I started by extensively searching the forums here and just about everywhere online.

I got nothing helpful. Here's the issue:

The 2 hoses coming from the petcock go to a "T" splitter, which brings it down to a single hose. This is on both sides.

One of the 'T' splitters is cracked and leaking. But I cannot locate a replacement resource. My "mechanic" tells me a 'Y' splitter would work better due the the space restraints and angle of the hoses. I cannot locate this either.

Does anyone have a part number or suggestion of a part I can order to achieve this solution?

    Thanks to all in advance.

That is not a stock component so any fuel resistent T or Y will work fine.

If both petcock hoses go to a T fitting, I have to assume that the octy is missing. If not, one should go to the octy, and the other one should 'tee' into a line coming from the octy. This line should go to the carbs. One problem you'll find trying to get a 'Y' fitting is most of them are plastic and not all are rated for fuel. 'T' fittings are much easier to find, and you can get them in metal. Try McMaster-Carr.com and search 'barbed hose fittings'. You can get stainless, brass, and nickel-plated brass.

No octy? It will be cheaper to mod your petcock... look here:

This seals off one hose fitting on the petcock, then just run the other line directly to the carbs.

You can buy brass "Y" fittings at Amazon.com.I also found them on E-Bay.I recently did the Pingel fuel valve update as i eliminated the octy also and used Y and T brass fittings.

Thanks, oldyam80sg, for your reply. I wish I COULD find them on ebay, etc, but i don't know exactly what I'm looking for. I tried searching through the owners manual, the service manual, etc and never could find that piece of info. What size hose pits on it, or what size the 'Y' fitting needs to be. Any ideas?

I'm definitely going to have to look into this.
I have a guy who works on 4 wheelers doing my engine work for me. He has a great grasp of what's what and did an awesome job overhauling my carbs and air filter system. He said I just need to replace that 'T' fitting, prefers a 'Y' fitting and I agree only because it's quicker and simpler (spring is in the air!). However, I think maybe at the end of the season I will see about getting that done. Sounds a lot better.

1/4" fuel line so it is the same size fittings, 1/4".

If your looking for simple and quick, just put one line on from the ON/RESERVE outlet of the petcock and skip the PRIME outlet. Just for comfort you can put a stub of fuel line on the PRIME outlet with a screw or bolt in it to seal it off in case you inadvertently turn the Petcock to PRIME. I ran this way for years, still do on my SH.

Same solution as Steve outlined, but without the work inside the petcock. Just not as fool proof. Once you eliminate the OCTY valve, the ON and PRIME are the same function.

On my SG because i run Pingel Petcocks and cant plug a line,it may look like spaghetti but all i have to do now to remove the carbs is to remove 1 fuel line from my Y fitting.Unscrew the manifold boot screws and remove the whole carb bank.So much easier than before.I think i can remove the carbs in maybe 3 minutes.

This is what I used on mine. I got it at my local Ace Hardware. It's a 1/4" brass tee.

Any hardware store may have it, but you probably need a real hardware store. I seldom have luck at the big box stores.
