  • Which Accel 8.8 Wires?

I need to replace the 34 year old wires and ends on my 78E. Where can I find the Accel 8.8 wires that I have been reading about to hack into my coils? If I call my local parts places, they can't do squat without a vehicle make/model. Tried a few common ones but they don't list 8.8 graphite wires for them. lol

Where can I order new plug/wire caps for the XS11 also?
    1) Fire up Internet Explorer
    2) http://www.yahoo.com
    3) type "www.mapquest.com" into the Yahoo search page.
    4) go about day as VP managing multi-million dollar financial contracts.

Hack into a good set of stock coils?............and put a set of carbon core wires on..........constitutes a couple red flags at the least!

I would suggest not using carbon core wires. They can't take the vibrations as well as solid core wires. Carbon core likes to be tied down and held still by holders every few inches if they are more going more than just from a coil to a plug a couple inches away.

        Hey Diskman,

That tech tip was written ~2000 when our bikes were only ~20 years old, so it was a feasible solution. But now, as you stated, your bike and your coils are 34 years old! And they barely provide enough power to fire the plugs under the ideal conditions...you add in wire corrosion, weak battery and charging system, and reduced voltage because of the ballast resistor.

Unless you're really concerned about keeping it as close to stock as possible, I would instead splurge for new 3 ohm hi output coils and wires/caps. Bypass the ballast resistor, and get twice the spark energy at the plug than the OEM coils, easier starting, better low rpm response. "WE" won't say anything about better mileage because it hasn't been shown to provide that.

Either Accel or Dynatek are the ones we suggest, because of reliability, warrantee, changeable wires. Do NOT get the MikesXS ones!!!

Not worried about keeping it "stock". I would like to put on several thousand miles this summer and need to update/replace some stuff.

Where can I find the new coils/wires for sale?
          1) Fire up Internet Explorer
          2) http://www.yahoo.com
          3) type "www.mapquest.com" into the Yahoo search page.

            Caps:
NGK XB05F (x2 for the inside cylinders 2&3)
NGK LB05F (x2 for the outside cylinders 1&4)

Got two sets, for both my bikes, on ebay for $ 32.50 from Ram Motorsports Inc.

            Seller: ramholman7

            Wires:

the info on this site: http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/main.htm

may aid you in your choice.

            I'm with T.C., upgrade to Dynatek DC1-1 3ohm coils.

Z1 Enterprises has the coils for a good price although I shopped ebay and saved a few bucks but Z1 was my next choice.

Oh BTW Luv yer sig :-)

So, I'm searching for the NGK caps and I stumble across these:

              They're: NGK XB05F-R
I guess NGK only sends them to the UK.

              They'd look cool on 'Scarlet'!

                Hey again,

An ebay search for "dynatek copper wire" revealed 3 sets, 7.0 mm, with the metal tips for the wires that fit into the coils, plus the boots, straight fit style for ~$24.00.

Another search "copper core plug wire" revealed lots of choices, IMHO the 7mm is perfectly fine. There was a 50 foot roll for ~$22.59 ! But no boots/ends! You'll need the special metal ends for fitting them INTO the Dynatek coils recessed towers!

Here's a 4 wire set for $24.99, the photo shows 6 wires, but it's listed as a 4 wire...has the 90 degree boots and the metal clips for the coils!
                http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Cylinder-C...-/110947829881

As for the fancy angled NGK caps, sorry Schming but those are exhorbitant prices. With the newer wires...especially if you get 8mm, the wires can lay on the engine head if needed without arcing! I got the regular non-resistor 90 degree NGK caps on MikesxS.net for ~$5.00 or so each!!!

                  Yah I checked Mikes, T.C.

32.50 divided by 8(for both my bikes) = 4.06 with free shipping which left me quite exuburant

If someone wants to go to the parts store and get wires, I used a new spare set of Bosch 7mm wires, from my '71 VW 1600 motor, that worked well for my '80G's Dynatek coil upgrade. HTH
