  • Clip-ons w/ Stock master?

    Hey XSives,
I was wondering about the fitment of clip-on bars with the stock master. I've searched a few times but can't seem to find a direct answer. So will the stock master fit with clip-ons or will it hit the fork tubes?
If so, can anyone suggest a replacement master cylinder? Running the stock calipers on my 80SG.
Lastly I'm looking to move the fork tubes up the trees about an inch or inch and a half. Anyone have any good tips before I give it a shot?

    Thanks, Spags

    Hi Spags,
there's no way I can see that any m/c can possibly hit a fork tube even when it's mounted on a clip-on.
Hit the gas tank on full right lock; perhaps. A trial installation is the only way to be sure.
Aftermarket m/cs are available from most bike parts catalog. Get one that's the same bore size or a tad smaller. A bigger bore will make the brake operation seem nasty and wooden.
Moving the fork tubes up through the 'trees will give the steering a quicker feel.
If that's what you want, OK.
Having the fork tubes sticking up through the 'trees will let you mount the clip-ons above the 'trees so you won't have to modify or remove the headlight ears.

      Fredintoon,

Thanks for the input on the clip-on/master cylinder question.
I am going for a quicker feel on the steering and I do plan on making my own Headlight mount as I want to lower the light just an inch or two so I will be taking the ears off then. Is there any easy way of going about that? The removal of the headlight mount I mean.

Turn the ears upside down? CZ
