    81 Tachometer

    I purchased a tach from an 81 xs1100 and this is what I got.



    What is supposed to hook to the bottom thing that looks like a speedo cable connector? I thought that the tachs were run off the generator.

    The wires are black white and blue coming out of the tach and when I hooked those up last night the high beam indicator turned on, but the tach did not work.

    You got a tach for something less than an 1100. (ie. 850/750/650 those are cable driven tachs.)
    You're right the 1100's have tachs that are driven off the generator/alternator.

      Yup, the 750 and 850 triples have a short cable that run from the top of the head.
      "The Hooligan" XJ1100, Virago Gauge Pods, Screaming Eagle Mufflers, K&N Filter, hand made rear fender, side covers, and solo seat, round bar conversion, small headlight, tail light, and cat eye turn signals, chip fuses, rewired the right way.
