  • LH Bleeding tips?

Anyone have any wonderful tips on bleeding the LH linked brake system? I bottle fed it to the back brake caliper until it ran out the front caliper bleed screw. Still have to much air in the system to bleed it.
I like riding the linked brake system but the bleeding is bloody ridiculous!

    Bleeeding

Have you tried a midi vac? It's a two person job though. One at the front with the vac and the other feeding the reservoir.

I tried the Miti vac and I even circulated the air out of the system with a windshield washer pump and copious doses of brake fluid. Now I am pulling the rear M/C to see if it will pump anything at all. I may have assembled something wrong with the rebuild kit I had for it. Yes it was the correct kit as it was one of the few to be found. I did not bench bleed the M/C when I had it out. Sometimes I wonder why I do stupid stuff like not bench bleed the damn thing and make sure it worked before getting this far.

        Proportioning valve

That's one of the reasons I converted mine, I couldn't find any replacement parts for the valve. I have the entire brake set up here in a box. If your doesn't work I can flash this out to you.

Once I get it out I will see if it is working and go from there. Might need some parts from you, but will wait see what I have happening. Thanks

I have the linked system on my XJ too. Mine was pitted and I am surprised that I go it to bleed out and work without leaking everywhere. I was wondering what replacement you guys were mentioning cause I'm going to need to do the same in the next year or two.

When I bled mine, I used a vacuum pump starting in the front, then the rear. It helps to open both bleeder screws, attach a tube to them, then hang them into two jars. Pump your pedal slowly without closing them. The fluid will travel out one of the two bleeders. After one of them begins to flow good, close it then keep pumping it out of the other one. Then you can bleed front to back like normal.

Don't forget to put a little grease on the bleeder screw threads.

              Hi Dog

The conversion I mentioned was to remove the linked system completely. I used a rear MC and the front Y from a 79 special, and set it up the same way.

I have a couple of different front M/C's but no matching clutch levers for them. I sold the parts bikes I had and the rear M/C's went with them. I tried to switch to normal when I still had thm, but the front M/C I have on my bike now doesn't have a big enough piston to push both the front calipers. Oh well. I'll run it til it drops.

I managed to find NOS rebuild kit for mine so it is all back in stock form.
I also did get my rear M/C bench bled and now all is good on my LH brakes.
Thanks to all who offered up parts and advice.

You can get XJ rebuild kits from Chacal on the XJbikes forum (link in my signature). That's why I switched my LH rear MC out for an XJ one. Same format, with a sllightly larger bore.
