  • Is there a way to hook up a cable driven tachometer to the 80 xs1100 std

I believe the xs11 spcial uses a cable driven speedometer. May be the connection is there for 80 xs1100 standard somewhere? or can I use an after market speedometer from autozone?

Nope, all of the XS1100 models use an electronic tach, Special and Standards alike. The only real difference is fuel indication being a gauge or a light and round or square shape.

Are you talking about a tachometer, or a speedometer? Both connections are identical for ALL XS11's (Standards AND Specials) except for the actual hub at the front wheel for the speedometer. Neither will be easily replaced by an aftermarket Autozone item.

Thanks Guys Ill look for one tachometer for xs11 special on ebay. There are a few now that are listed under xs11 but they have the cable connector. I am not in hurry so Ill wait for cheap one.

The one with a cable connection is for the 750/850. The gauges are almost the same, and you CAN use the 750 speedo on the XS11 with no problems. IF you don't mind the square gauge, you can use the standard gauges on the special as well.

You really want a cable driven TACHOMETER?

              Hi Joe,
the thing that counts engine RPM?
Sure there's a way. Won't be easy or cheap but it's certainly feasible.
Mill a drive slot in the end of one of the camshafts.
Bore the casings to fit a Right angle tach adapter that'll plug into the camshaft slot.
Run a drive cable up to a mechanical tach.
Be sure to get a tach head that reads right with the tach adapter's ratio.
Or perhaps the tach gear from an XS750/850 could be made to fit?
