  • need help, battery

need to replace my battery, and planning on getting it at autozone. just want to know what the cranking amps and other spec. I need to know when I choose one for my 79, special. my battery I have now will charge for a while, til my smart charger knocks off saying full charged, but the battery will not start bike and the lights dim fast when trying to crank the engine. so i'm going to replace it. hopeing the battery being the problem.

Smart chargers I don't feel work well for an initial charge on a new battery so hopefully they will properly charge the battery before giving it to you.

The dimensions of the battery as follows...

      8 1/8" x 3 9/16" x 6 3/8"

They are $53.88 at your local Walmart. Autozone can look up the bike and give you the correct battery. Don't know what the CCA amps are, but they should be fine if the battery size is correct.

Just remember the number 18 when looking for a battery. The part number will always have that number in it to identify the size.

If you are getting a battery at auto zone tell them to load test the other one.If its bad then you will know.

I have bought batteries that were spec'ed to the Goldwing and they worked fine (but that was quit a while ago and maybe their battery configurations have now changed).

I bought the 50 dollar Walmart to replace my 100+ sealed high tech POS that only lasted 1 1/2 years. I have been real happy with it 2+ years now and I did the int charge with a tender with know problem, in fact, it recomended low amp int charging, good luck with your bike

I looked at Autozone when I got the SG for a battery, they were just under $100. Went to Meijer for mine, at about $60, funny thing was it was the same brand and model as at Autozone. I always look at the size and the connection locations, leads me to the same battery every time.
