  • A general question

What would cause white-ish / gray-ish smoke out the pipes on deceleration. This would be after going up through the gears and, just letting out of it. Carbs have been cleaned. Thanks......

Is it popping on deceleration as well? White smoke would concern me. I think it's lean. White smoke is usually water vapor. What is the condition of your oil? Could there be gasoline in the crankcase mixed with the oil?

      question

Its a friends bike a, 79 zr1100....air cooled so. I'm just taking a stab at this. He wants me to look at this machine.....we are just at the chatting point on it now. Don't know what he has done to it....its a long shot i know. Just start-en the adventure. It could be gas in the oil.......wont know till he brings it over for me to look at.

Could be valve seals/guides; ask him if it uses oil....

When i had my accident on my ZRX last August, gas leaked from petcock into the oil.The exhaust would stink like a weed eater and blue smoke would come out.Glad i caught it before riding.

Does it also smoke at start up? If so, sounds like valve seals. The oil leaks down when sitting and causes smoke at start up, it will also smoke at de-cell as the oil is sucked into the combustion chambers, JAT
