    Putting 79 ignition switch into 80 special

    Andreas is supplying me with a complete setup of ingition, sidecover, helmet, and gascap keyed the same which beats the 3 different keys I have right now. Is there any way to put the 3 wire 79 ignition into my 4 wire 80 ignition setup, so I can use the same key?? I currently have the Partsnmore ignition switch in there. Sounds like Fred and Phil and a few others are pretty savvy with interchanging stuff??? I on the other hand am dangerous.
    Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.

    The only difference between the two switches is the 'extra' wire on the later ones is for the emergency flashers. This wire is unswitched (always 'hot') anyway, so if you want to retain the flashers, just tap that wire into the red 'main power' wire coming from the main fuse...

      We don't need no stinkin' emergency flashers! (Banditos to Humphrey Bogart in Treasure of the Sierra Madres) So I can just plug the switch in to the existing wiring harness plug??? That would be awesome!
      Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.

        I think you can also take the 'key core' out of the '79 switch and put it into the existing switch and then no plugging or harness mods will be needed.

        Somewhere on here I saw an awsome writeup on taking those switches apart...

            Well, no.... The two plugs are different, so you'll have to swap one of them. But the wire connectors are the same IIRC, so it's not a big deal...

              So I could just use the old 4 prong switch connector and put the 3 79 wires into it, then plug it into the harness, making sure I put tan to tan etc etc?
