First off, that is an 81 Standard known as the Venturer. Yes I know the title says it is an 80, it is quite common for the title to be wrong. Look at the VIN and see if it starts with 4R1. If so, it is an 81 Standard. Looks pretty complete and in great shape. You have one of the truly hard to find and desirable models there!

Thanks for the comment DGXSER. Its good knowing its a hard to find model but kinda sad cause I was just planning on taking off most of the touering stuff. I know i will hear it from some one. lol.

The bags need work. the hing on them need repaired where it attaches to the lid and the other lid has a crack. The trunk needs a lock and the rack is missing. The faring is in great shape but is huge! lol. it says it has 21000 miles but the first gear issue and the top end of the motor sound like it could use the shims adjusted, The previous ovner took the carbs apart and they are together but need tinkering to be correct. but your right over all for 30+ years old its in pretty good shape. If its something that should be restored Ill gladly trade for a run of the mill XS11 thats ridable.

I would get a different model if you plan on a nakid bike. The tank is huge. I think they started making the H model (81) in 1980.

What you describe is one of the most common reasons these bikes got sidelined. It sounds like the gears are skipping under any kind of power. It typically hits 2nd gear, but 1st gear is not uncommon either. Does it feel almost like your sitting on a machine gun? Basically there are three "dogs" on the drive gears that fit into slots on the mating gear in the transmission. The ends get rounded over and instead of latching and driving the gear, they slip and then clunk into the next slot, and slip and clunk into the next slot.

There is an excellent guide here on the sight for fixing the issue HERE. It does require a bit of work, however with the guidance of the folks on the site and this guide anyone with the interest and some mechanical aptitude can certainly accomplish the project.

Looking forward to pics of your bike!!
i saw his bike today and when he puts it in gear it does sound like a machine gun.

                Hi CP,
That is a Venturer. In the original colour. The exhaust system looks original too. In your picture the airbox is missing. Do you have it?
That bike appears to be in very good condition and once you get the carbs sorted out and the gear issue fixed you will have a fantastic bike.
After a long ride in the rain you will Love that fairing
I bet the build date is September or later 1980 leading to the PO thinking it is a G but it is an H.
Mirrors are the only thing I notice are not OEM,but if they work for you thats fine.

                      Hi CP
                      Picture of my Addie

Note the double rail around the bags and across the back. This style I have seen on others so yours is a little different. Also have seen different racks so not sure how original the one on mine is? The brochure shows a rack like mine and no top box.

Not sure where you live but keeping it stock and original means you can get collector tags,(a one time purchase in Wisc.). Being a owner of the same bike I can't say enough about it. They are fast, comfortable and handle real good with the extra's on them. Congrats on your purchase.

I have the Special model from the same year, and I can tell you that because this bike is such a comfortable bike to ride, and not just a performance bike, I need storage on the bike for picking things up at the grocery or the hardware store. So you may want to look at how you can repair those bags.

Now I do like the wind on me so I do not have a fairing. However, I did have a CB750 with a fairing and I did not take it off. Personal choice of course.

Should you determine you do want to trade for an XS11 better suited to being nakid, you had better advertise it here first or more than a few members will hunt you down!

yeah i kind of like the bag idea. ive thought of replacing them with large ammo cans on these mounts. they would be solid and water tight. Then using my 750 front headlight assembly. maybe going with a green and black look.

I guess i should just focus on getting it running. lol.
