    Hi XSive 1100s,

What can be done to the shafts to match up the mirrors angle between the left and right mounts when you don't have the original mirrors ?

I'm thinking buying some mild steel rod, bending and threading to match to the different mount angles ?

Thank You IA ! Don };~)

If the mirror angles don't match, you've got a non-stock part on there somewhere; probably the master cylinder.

So I now have a question. Will mirrors from a 79 SF match up to a 81 LH or is each bike its own thread match? I may have to order new mirrors for my frankenbike if that is a fact.

        Hi Rasputin,
You are aware of the LEFT hand thread on one side
Some of the aftermarket mirros are yamaha specific with the left hand thread.
I forget which of the vendors offers an adapter to thread into the lefthand thread so you can buy any of their mirrors.
        Did that answer your question?

Yes I do know about the left hand thread. Just was wondering if the threads were different on specific years or not, as the mirrors I have here will not line up in a useful position. I am trying to use 79 SF mirrors on my 81 LH and it is confusing me.
Just do not want to order a new set of mirrors if these will work and I am just to dumb to see how.

            Hi Crazy Steve !
Thanks so much for the reply !
I've been buying lots of info on this bike, 81 reports by Motorcycle Mechanics Fortnightly magazine from New Zealand shows the master cylinder like on my bike, 81 LH supplement shows this same master but the owners manual page 90 shows it best. The mounting for the right hand mirror on the master cylinder is angled straight up about 120 degrees angle from the handlebar. The clutch mount for the mirror points the mirror stem at about 90 degrees to the handlebar, either they are right or one is wrong.
This clutch perch is or seems to be the same as on my 650s.
The master is a rectangular aluminum box, this is of course the bike that the rear brake pedal works both the rear and left front brake calipers and the front brake lever only the right front caliper. Pictures if you like ?
            Thank You ! Don };~)

              Hi Rasputin,
Is the "nut" rusted to the shaft? a bit of WD40 or even PB blaster to free it up. You should be able to locate the shaft and hold it still while you lock it down with the nut. If that is not your issue perhaps you could adjust the handlebars up or down ? The length and bend of the mirror shafts is different between some models as well as round or rectangular.
I have a set of short shart aftermarket mirrors that were on a Special which you can have if you want.

Al of the mirrors, and therefore clutch mounts and MC, I believe have the same threading. I do know that the Standards had round mirrors IIRC, while the specials all came with rectangular mirrors. I know all of my Specials have had rect, though not all are stock.

DGXSER, you're right. If it had a square headlight, (Standards) it had round mirrors. If it has a round headlight, it had square mirrors??

The rectangle aluminum M/C housing... Didn't just the XJ have those?

Regardless... If you can post pics, it would make things much easier.

The LH had a very similar (but not identical) M/C. Uses the same internals, but the body isn't quite the same.

The left mirror mount is lower than the right on my SG also by about an inch. I just got one of those vibration dampeners that goes in between the mirror sft and the left mount and it evened them up.

                      http://www.jcwhitney.com/garage-pro-...?filterid=u0j3

It only comes in right hand thread which is what the left mirror is.

Yeah, there's that issue too. The factory mirrors compensated for this with different stem lengths. If you have most aftermarket mirrors, the problem crops up.

Only the XJ had 'mirror image' mounts (same stem length both sides) AFAIK...

Looks like you have a Special MC mounted on Standard bars. The MC will be tipped forward and so will the mirror.

Either go back to the buckhorns or change the MC to one from a standard. They mount at different angles because of the difference in the bars.
