  • 79XS1100 exhaust smoke

This is a two part question. First off I have a 79 XS1100
with a BLACK ENGINE. Is this a diffrent model or something?
Second the left exhaust pipe is smoking on start up for like 15 minutes or so then seems to calm down a white smoke nasty oder. I don't mind it but everyone else does lol guess I'm used to it. I was told it was a seal? Anyway I figured I'd come to the experts for advice.

OK, if this was a watercooled machine, u'd be in trouble... Since it's not, don't worry - that much.
If the smoke was black - blueish, than some oil probbably gets in the combustion chamber.. maybe valve seals or sth..
It could have sth to do with choke.. that usually produces white smoke. Theck the carbs and choke setting/jets.
White smoke also appears if water gets in the cylinders.. in this case, I don't know how. Check the airbox or sth.. It could be, that some water vapor or sth got in there and till it clears up, it gets sucked in the carbs. There's a hole under the airbox (square with some plastic cover, there's a foam filter there. Open it and check for moisture).
Check the oil... if it looks witish, change it at once. In this case, some water got in your oil, and it aint healthy. The engine could seize up.
Also try bleeding the gas tank, wait till it dries up inside and put some fresh gas in. There could be water in there too... did u ever open gas tank when it rained?
And finally... who hates u and has access to your bike? My friend and his wife had a fight and she put sugar in the gas tank. Wrecked the 1976 Moto Guzzi LeMans I with all the trimmings...

What does it smell like? Don't say nasty... my feet smell nasty

    LP
If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.
