      Hi Steve,
In an earlier post he mentions 1981. It has a Special tank but exstensive modifications to frame.

      Hi Joey,
If it still has the Kill switch on the right handlebar control, check that is ON. Wiggle the wires to it also to see if that makes a difference.
Have you done anything since it last started? Check battery connections are tight.
      When did it last run?

Here's a link to a pic of his bike:

        http://www.flickr.com/photos/9355820...in/photostream

It reminds me a little of Nightengale's bike. His is an '81 also, but not raked like Joey's.

Joey, without a little more info we're gonna have trouble pointing you in the right direction to fix your problem.

Is the battery voltage still good? try using some jumper cables or a battery charger that has a jump/start setting.

Do you hear a click? in other words is the starter trying to engage, but not spinning?

Is it cranking, but just not firing up? Did you check for spark on all 4?

These are just some of the things we need to know in order to help you.

Joey, Good to see your post! Knowing your bike has had extensive mods, how intact is the original wiring?

Here is a simplified diagram of the typical XS1100 starting circuit. Some of the components may be missing from yours.

If the bike is turning over, starter is working but it is not starting, then the first question could be how long has it been since you started it? Battery have a good charge? Did the bike sit with the carbs full of gas for a long period of time? Have you tried it with the Starting Fluid you mentioned before?
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.
