  • Round chrome cap on middle gear

So I'm repainting my bike engine factory alum. color and want to remove the side covers on each side etc, that were never painted. What is behind the small chrome round cap that bolts on with the allen bolts? I have the Type2 middle gear and there are actually two allen bolts on the bottom of mine. If I remove this will gear oil leak out? Easier to remove that mask/tape it. Also, can I just remove the alt cover as well?
Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.

JIMHO, I would just mask the chrome cover, and the other cover "CAN" be remover but it is NOT just remove the screws and pull, the magnets will be pluged in to the elect system on the bike and bolted to the cover

You can remove all these covers, it's no big deal. Don't remove the three bolts in the center of the alt cover, just the perimeter bolts. The middle drive cover is just a cover, but does need to be torqued properly when reinstalled. And it will leak gear oil with the cover off, I'd recommend draining the middle drive so you don't have oil getting into your new paint...
