  • Drilled rotors

Will I just finished drilling out my rotors. I spent alot of time trying to find out which way the holes in the rotors should go. I used the template that Ken has on our site here. But I don't know if the holes should run forward or backward. I started out by marking the rotors while the rotors were on the bike, and had the template on the rotors with the holes running forward then after I finished drilling the holes I noticed that they could be put back on either way with holes going forward are backward by just switching left for right or right for left duhhhhhhhhh. So I wondered, which way was right, or If there is a right way for the holes to run. Started looking at all my motorcycle books to see which way their holes were running, and I found that some were running forward and some were running backward. So it looks like it dosen't matter, what do you guys think?

The slots on my '81 special run forward, I guess. That is, the inside of the slot comes in contact with the pad before the outside (diameter) does.

I drilled my rotors using Kens template too. I had them going one way for a year or so. Recently got a newer tubeless rear wheel with a slotted rotor. I swapped sides on my front rotors to match the sloted rear. Haven't noticed any difference.

Also, when I drilled my rotors I used different sized drill bits for each hole. The inner holes are large and size tapers down to the outer holes. Looks a little different, works fine. Wife wants me to drill the rotors on her XS750, what to do with them....hmmmm.....

You don't want them mounted backwards! It will make the bike accelerate when you hit the brakes!!!
