That's a scratch-built conversion, not something you can whomp up with a hammer and hacksaw...

He's running a 15t sprocket, but that requires machining the cases. There's been other conversions done, but most are limited to a 13T sprocket because of the case clearance issue. There is a 'commercial' version available: look here: http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ive+conversion

Thanks steve, I've seen this conversion, but I only have 1500$ into this bike including purchase cost, so that would be a little out of my budget to buy something like that.

I do have a full spare gear housing and shaft. And access to mills and machines and have a lathe in my shop.

I realize the sprocket is super close to the case, but i dont mind running a 13 tooth front. If i have to replace it every season i dont care...

Anyways, any info on the application of that sprocket he is using? Because it looks like it slides onto the stock shaft...???? Looks like all he did was make a bearing housing for the outside and run the sprocket right on the stock shaft with a spacer?

That shaft is custom, not a OEM part.....

Hmm, the spare shaft I have looks exactly the same as his pic without having a tape measure beside it... splines on both ends look (and count out from what I can see) the same, threads look the same, bearing positions look the same...

            Hi Shawn,
build yourself a shaft extension & housing with it's own bearings to mount the sprocket outboard to where it can have enough teeth to work nice.
17T is good, 15T is marginal & 13T don't just wear out quick, it lets the chain pile up on it which sucks up power and can break the chain.
Moving the chain outboard also allows using a fatter rear tire.
