  • Tank Emblems for Special

I don't know if it's common knowledge, but tank emblems for the SG and SH are available from Yamaha. I bought a pair for <$35.

The sidecover emblem in the photo was restored with a gold leafing pen.

Just to be sure, these are not flat silver golf cart emblems. These are gold and contoured to the tank. Although not correct to the original, these will fit on the SF as well.

I just checked the Yamaha site and I will be ordering two pairs tomorrow as they show still available. Gold leaf pens are easily obtained at any arts and crafts store. One needs a steadier hand than i have to apply it but my wife did a great job on a set I did the same way.

The gold leafing pen came from Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or another hobby supply store. The rest of the paint I picked up at either a local auto parts store or hardware store.

I bought the emblems from www.partzilla.com I buy a lot there.

The new emblems don't match the restored ones too well. They reflect the light differently.

My method is found on page 2 & 3 of the thread below.

Marty, buying a pair of the emblems is a good decision as that way they will match. I bought one about a year ago from my local dealer however when comparing it to original emblems that I have I found that the gold color is a lot lighter shade than the originals.

The emblem on top is a Mike's XS reproduction for the XS650. (It is slightly smaller than the XS11 badge) The middle two were done with the leafing pen and then sprayed with clear. The bottom one was repaired with the leafing pen at the left side.

The new OEM badges are not a color match with the XS650 reproduction.

Do Mikes repro badges fit 1100's??

Are the Mikes repros the correct spacing on the screws to fit on our 1100's?
Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.

                  Hi Courtney,
no, they are a lil' bit smaller and ~10mm too short between bolt holes.
If your wife buys them for you for Xmas a wise man says "just what I need, thank you" and makes the buggers fit (tap a new M3 hole in the rear hold-down strap)
Otherwise get the real badges from Yamaha.

Went to the Yamaha dealer today and they are "No Longer Available" to us through Yamaha, Canada. The only way to get them is to order them from a US or other site as Yammy says its a big NO here.

I understand those expensive metal badges shrink to not fit. The Mike's XS badges can't be much different.

The Mike's badges are $39.50 for a pair. A pair of OEM badges from Partzilla (formerly Powersports Plus) is $33.84. Yamaha Parts House.com offers them at $32.04.

I wish I could buy new sidecover badges to match.

Don't know if this helps, not cheap, they don't shrink after you get them but may need "slight" adjustment to side cover holes
