  • 2 quick questions

#1 i have to replace the crank seal on the pick up coil side of my xj. i cant seem to find the thread that said what size the automotive seal was that i need to use. can someone please refresh my memory?
#2 the bold that holds the rotor on for the pick up coils the head of it is all stripped out. i cant really get anything in there to get ahold of it. any suggestions? i have a impact driver but i cant really get in there to cut a slot in the head of the bolt to use it. would it be possible to weld a bold onto the head of that bolt without causing damage to anything else? i imagine that it wouldnt be a good thing to heat up the crank end with a welder either. im kinda at a loss here.

How about some kind of a close fitting Redhead (concrete anchor). They expand in the hole as you turn the nut on the end.

You should post a pic of that XJ too.

im not sure how a red head would help me. the bolt im trying to take out is a allen head and the hole in the center of the bold where the wrench fits into it is stripped. the po must have tried to take this bolt out and the wrench slipped inside the bold and stripped it out. i dont have a photo bucket account. i do have a video of it running on a youtube. http://youtu.be/AiQ8CqclHr4 try this link

Drill the head off the bolt. It's a standard metric bolt, a replacement is as close as the nearest bolt supply....

if i drill the head off the bolt how much of it will be sticking out of the end of the crank to get ahold of? id hate to drill the head off and not be able to get the rest of the bolt out of the crank

With the depth of that timing plate and then the pick-up coil plate, ther will be plenty enough to get a good vice grip on to turn the bolt. I would say you should have easily an inch or more of bolt to grab.
