  • Custom/different model tank?

I was thinking about buying a non-XS11 tank off Ebay and *making* it fit my XS11LH. Anyone ever given this any thought or done it already?

I've been looking at the bigger V-star and Roadstar tanks. I like the idea of nix'ing the original speedo and tach and putting the speedo on the tank.

Would be it really be that hard to drill a hole to accept a second petcock?

The second petcock really isn't needed. I only turn on one petcock on my bike, have been doing that for years, with no fuel starvation problem at all. I have both of them, but only use one. As far as drilling another hole, it's a little more than that. If you remove a petcock you will seet hat where it mounts is made flat so the petcock o ring will seal against it, and that you would have to figure a way to get some threads inserted into the tank for attaching the petcock.

I'd be more concerned about it fitting over the frame. The XS11 has a larger tank cutout section than most bikes.

Making a flat spot... I was thinking I could just weld or epoxy a small rectangle of metal to the side missing a petcock, cut the hole, and tap the screw holes. The extra plate should give me enough thikness for the screws to bite.

On second thought though- I've been reading about replumbing the fuel lines on a XS/XJ (thanks Mike!). I should be able to just use the factory petcock ala' a single line. Through an in-line filter on the line, graft it to a T, and then route each end off of the T to the carbs. Solves my problems without a lot of hassle, plus keeps my carbs from getting a bad case of iron-oxide heartburn. Who knows, maybe one of those sweet looking 90degree fuel shutoff valves as well? Wanting to put on the pod air-filters anyway, so I'll have a spot on the frame to mount it. (http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...t=fuel+shutoff)
