  • Later carburetors and Yamaha Parts catalog

This is the carburetor parts breakdown for the XS1100LH. Item #57 is a plug that goes over the pilot jet. This has to be wrong.

View it here: Yamaha Motorcycle Parts 1981 XS1100LH CARBURETOR Diagram

The same goes for the XS1100SG.

This time it's item #54. Also, the main jets for the SG are listed as 120 & 125. Have a look: Yamaha Motorcycle Parts 1980 XS1100SG CARBURETOR Diagram

I'm trying to help someone with an LH and I have an SG. He's going to the dealer for help and getting the same information I just posted here. These manuals are wrong, correct? Everything I know tells me Crazy Steve's Carb Identifier Guide is correct and Yamaha's books are wrong. What gives? I believe my bike isn't going to run if I install the plugs as per the parts book.

I do not know if it is correct or not but my LG does run perfectly without the rubber plugs.

Yes, that's my point. I expect your bike will not run with the rubber plugs, unless the carburetors have the passage drilled between the pilot and main jets. I don't think any LH had that, and my SG doesn't either.
