  • running too rich

ok so its not exactly standard but its still an xs
ive put stainless pipes on it (4 into2 then back into4 again, to allow small baffles) and ive got k and n's on it
    now heres the rub
    its running so rich
it idles fine but when the main jets take over it almost floods itself
it doesnt seem to matter which combination of circlip position or mixture screw position i use ,it just wont run right

    Flooding/Over Rich

You said that you put K&N's on it. Are they true K&N'S or aftermarket look alikes? I had exactly the same problem you describe when I put cheap cone type (K&N look alikes) on.
Under load as the engine speed increases it would become so rich it would barely run.
Discovered that the cones had a large rubber flange where they clamp onto the carb air horn. This large rubber collar was away smaller than the carb intake and acted like a choke that was partially on. It also blocked off 2 or 3 ports in the mouth of the carbs that provide air for various carb circuits.
Try running the engine with the cones off for a short run. I bet the flooding condition/black smoke goes away.

      thanks for that
And true to form i'd taken the the carbs off before i read your reply.
I do however think that it must be a jetting problem....

Does anyone know where i can get a factory workshop manual on disc from ?
