  • Brake Pad part number confusion

Okay, I pulled my calipers off my SG yesterday and now I start searching for pads.
Thanks to Steve's tech tip, http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...234#post378234
I've come to know that there are 3 types of pads.
The Special fronts (and XJ & LH rears)
The Standard fronts and rears (and special rears except LH above)
    The XJ and LH Fronts.

I've heard/read somewhere that the fronts and rears have some type of different composition, but I can't find any different part numbers confirming this.

Now, I'm pretty sure the special fronts have a left and a right set. (Depends on the slant of the pad) (and this is why the right fronts are the same for the XJ/LH rears, which are on the right side of the bike too)

So, I've been spending the day looking up part numbers to cross reference and such and whew! there sure are a lot of older part numbers out there.

This is what I've found: (the first number listed seems to be the most up to date/current part number)
    Special Lefts:
    4H7-W0045-09-00 (SF,LG,SG,SH Frnt)
    4H7-W0045-12-00
    3J6-W0045-11-00
    2G2-W0045-10-00

Special Rights (and XJ, LH Rears):
    4W1-W0046-09-00 (SF,LG,SG,SH Frnt & XJ,LH Rear)
    4W1-W0046-00-00
    3J6-W0045-01-00
    2G2-W0045-00-00

Standards and Special rears: (except LH)
    4K0-W0045-02-00 (E,F,G,H Frnt & Rear SF,SG,SH Rear)
    4K0-W0045-01-00
    4W1-W0045-00-00
    1J3-W0045-00-00
    3H5-W0045-01-00

    XJ and LH Fronts:
    23W-W0045-01-00 (XJ,LH Front)

Now the older part numbers will show up from time to time as NOS and such (like on Ebay), the newer part numbers some dealers/distributors may have in stock.

I did all this to make sure that when I start looking for the correct pads for my bikes that I buy the right ones the first time.
Disclaimer: This is in no way a thread about pad composition (organic vs non or any of the other stuff), just the about part numbers of the stock pads so they'll correctly fit the calipers.

    I hope this helps.

The OEM pads that came on the standards had a different compound front/rear, but not even Yamaha currently lists pads that are different. So for all practical purposes, if it fits it's right. If by some chance you get a low-miles bike that has the OEM pads, the rear set is marked as 'rear'...
