there's a 4 digit number on the lock face.
A competent locksmith (not the bimbo in that kiosk at the mall) can make you a new key from that number.
The first key will cost you ~$20; extra keys ~$2.50.
Get 5 keys.
1) On your keyring.
2) In your billfold.
3) Taped inside the bike's right hand sidecover.
4) in your sock drawer.
5) At your mom's place.Fred Hill, S'toon

John, ditto on the 4 digit code. About 4 years ago, I lost my key and I found a locksmith just off little creek road (7802 Merritt St.)(Ace Locksmith)((757) 401-4344) that took the number and looked up the number of notches, size, etc. Cut me a key right there on the spot. <$20 (I think it was more like $15) I did bring my ignition switch with me to verify that it would fit/work.Hi, my name is George & I'm a twisty addict!

Here is a place for keys.
I have used this website for keys. http://www.keys4uuride.com. Gave them the 4 digit code off of the key (typed it in on the website order form). A few days later, had new keys in hand. My Yamaha dealer does not make keys?

Yeah this brings up a topic. Since anyone can look at your locks and have a key made for your bike, scary, there is a cheap and easy anti theft mod you can do to ensure the unexpecting would be pile of human trash cannot start your bike by key, or even hot wiring. If you look at your Ignition box, you should see a black/white 6V wire coming out of it. That wire goes to your tilt switch. The tilt switch simply operates by grounding that circuit in the event of your bike tilting over 60 degrees, (a crash, tip, etc...) and cutting of power to your coils. All you have to do is splice in a toggle switch with it's own ground wire and hide it in an inconspicuous place. Flip the toggle switch to on, the circuit is grounded, no spark. I did it on my bike but I'm not telling you where it is."The Hooligan" XJ1100, Virago Gauge Pods, Screaming Eagle Mufflers, K&N Filter, hand made rear fender, side covers, and solo seat, round bar conversion, small headlight, tail light, and cat eye turn signals, chip fuses, rewired the right way.
