Whoops Nate. I was referring to my 750E. That headlight switch allows for you to turn the light on and off anytime.

I was thinking about doing something like this but I also found a site that sells LED headlights. Anyone have any experience with these lights?

Not on here that we know of, they are way too $$, perhaps if you go to a Harley or Beamer site! Also the light output vs. $ ratio is very poor as well, that's why we worked out the actual HID projector Mod, not just using HID bulbs in Halogen reflectors.

Yeah, I was wonder about the light output on those as well. I didn't think they would be as bright as the HID's, Just never really saw one up close. I was thinking about changing all the lights over to the LED, which made me think that the headlight would be a good option as well. Still not 100% on making the led change though.

Only issue with going LED on these bikes id that the stock flasher unit requires the draw of the stock bulbs to function, so you have to change out the flasher. Cheap enough to do, however, then the flasher cancel unit will not work.

Just a tid-bit. BMW motorcycles are known as "beemers/beamers", while their cars are known as "bimmers". Difference in spelling was to differentiate the bikes from cars.

Got my kit today. Took two weeks to get here. I actually figured it would be closer to a month.

Thankfully the housings come as a set of two. I broke the housing on the first one, and not wanting to risk breaking the second one I just smacked the glass with a hammer so between the pair I had a fully functional one.

I got everything hooked up and its working good but tomorrow I need to take it apart and move some wiring around. Its so tight behind the bucket that I cant point it down.

Thanks TC and DG for putting all this up.

Hearing all this praise wants me to do more night riding so I have a reason to do this mod too.

Is the Windjammer fairing headlight the same size as the stock? In other words will this same setup work with the bulb that I have in the WJ?

Also the harness for the WJ has the hi, lo and ground wires already, Could I use those? would they be good enough do you think?

I guess it's time for someone to do this mod with a fairing and write it up.

Just been reading up on TC's write up, it looks like Bug may have already done HID conversion for the WJ.

George, if you have the 7" Round headlight in your Vetter fairing then yes, this will work just fine. It uses the same headlight as the stock XS11 special uses. In fact, when I got the SG I call Ruby, it had a Vetter headlight bucket out of a fairing on it in place of the stock headlight bucket.

Just an FYI for anyone who hasn't seen them yet. You can get extension cables up to 2 metres long for the HID systems that allow you to keep the headlight shell and surrounds a bit less cluttered. I recently fitted a pair of 50w HID projector driving lights just under the headlight, and sited the ballasts where the toolbox sits.

                            Rectangular Reflector

Does anyone make a rectangular reflector for the Standard bucket or fairing for use with the HID upgrade?

First you will need to do this.

                              http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33251

Then you can install any 5x7 headlight.

I am thinking about doing an HID here sometime now. Although I might make up some fiberglass housings and mount a pair of HID projector driving lights on the bottom of the fairing.
