Man! watching that video again that 2nd gear must have been giving you trouble for a LONG time before it got that bad.

Mine would only skip once in a while under heavy throttle and I couldn't take it anymore.

I bought it that way. I never knew until I actually had the engine running that it skipped that badly. 81LH with a 79SF motor and all the wrong timing, TCI etc was the issue.
Have it running great now and ready to go except for paint. My engine removal thing will have it out and on a rotisserie soon. Then the paint can flow and all will be cool.

I'm afraid to see my 2nd gear, it will not stay in at all. I got it to stay in for 100 feet once under almost no throttle, then it popped out anyway.

If you watched the video I posted earlier, you will know the fix is needed. The bike in the vid would not do it while on the double stand so yours should be in not that bad of condition if you can actually use it for a 100 feet. It is fixable you just need the second gear fix info available and follow it. That and a few select cuss words repeated many times and you will have a bike that shifts great. Oh yeah pay attention to the shift forks when doing the fix as they may be worn from someone trying to hold it in second gear. When we did Trdriver71's he had a bad shift fork that had to be replaced as well.

I saw that. It wouldn't surprise me to find a worn shift fork with some of the other neglect I've come across. My PO was to lazy to replace brake pads. Glad the rotors are still okay, but they were grinding on metal.

Just remember that those forks are numbered as to position and if replaced need to be replaced with the same number.

Just throwing that out there in case you were unaware.

This may sound stupid, but I might try to fix something like that with a welding machine. A little fill, some grinding, viola!

Unless you have the ability or the money to reharden the dogs after you heat them up from the welding dont do it.

Not just that, but getting the dogs hot enough when welding to get a good bite into the original material, you've got a pretty good chance of warping the gear.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

I was talking about the shift forks. Maybe even dumber than trying to weld on the dogs. Or maybe just weld some large grade 8 machine washers on to them.
