Depending the year of the carbs, it could be the float needle seat and valve, or the o-ring seal in the newer style, gasket on the older style. Typically, you would need to tear them down and pull the float needle seat out. replace the seal for it, clean and possibly replace the valve as well.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Well, with the limited info (year, model, circumstances), my advice would be this: if it's only leaking when the bike is stopped, you have multiple problems. If you have a 'standard' bike (or tank), then both your petcocks and carbs need rebuilding. If you have a Special and the vacuum control valve (AKA the 'octy') is still installed and you're not turning the petcocks to 'off' when stopped, then add a rebuild for that, but your petcocks may be ok. Petcocks turned to off, add those. If leaking while riding the bike only, it's the carbs. In any case, the carbs are leaking, that just might not be the only place.
As to which kits you need, those are year-specific. Georgefix on eBay is a good place to get them.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Your 'standard' petcocks don't have an 'off' position, as they're designed to shut fuel flow off automatically when the bike isn't running via a vacuum-operated valve. So they're leaking internally and should be rebuilt. There is a way to 'make' an off position if you file the little stop tab away on the petcock cover, but that still may not fix the leak, I'd recommend rebuilding them.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... make sure when rebuilding petcocks that you don't just replace rubber parts...a lot of times grime and fuel varnish buildup on aluminum parts and you have to wet send those parts smooth for petcock to operate properly...I believe 600 grit should work for that. I had to send the flat part of the handle that contacts four hole seal, and inside of the body that seal of the handle rides on(if that makes any sense...)Nick

Thanks guys, I modified the petcock. If that does not do the trick I will try one of these kits.

Is this the right one for the xs1100g 1980 or are there any better ones?
I seem to find the same kit everywhere. This one is from google

Dang it, thanks Steve!
Wow, one kit does only one petcock from the looks of that, making it a $56 investment to rebuild both. Good news is George will combine shipping so you only pay shipping once. Sometimes the Special models have their advantages.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I found your name and bike model from your profile but it makes life easier if you build that data into a signature line. Like mine, below.Fred Hill, S'toon
