  • Michigan bikers: Slicks salvage???

Hey fellas. Just a question for the Michigan bikers: anybody ever goto the back warehouse to see if they have any OEM exhaust for the XS11? I called one of the parts guys, and he told me they basically take you in the warehouse wnd you have to find the exhaust for yourself. Kinda curious to know if anybody has had luck there.

i haven't gone there, but when I called them about side covers for my 79, they basically laughed at me .... I don't think they have many xs in there...but if you're close it might be worth the trip....

They may have laughed because they truly do not know what they have. They do not catalog their parts. They basically toss everything in bins, and tell you to go through them. I have gone there before in-search of side covers and did not find any.

The name sounds familiar. Where are they located?

              Slick's Update

On October 28th, I went to Slick's, looking for some ZRX1200 carbs and when I got there, it turns out they had moved a few miles down the road to Dansville. They have been closed since the spring and are in the process of moving all their inventory to their new location. They are not and will not be open for the next few weeks (even though the website says Nov. 1 is the new locations opening).

It's an interesting story about why they moved. "Slick" told me that the big crematory that opened up next to his original location had all three of their big smokestacks going all the time and the wind would drive the smoke into his business. Also, he was not allowed to own the property he was on (even after 20 years it never became an option), so he decided to buy some property in Dansville which makes it cheaper for him to own and he said he is going to be able to charge better prices (I wouldn't know what he charged before).

There are lots of useful parts at his new location, including a few complete (I was told) XS motors, and still more are coming out of storage. Most of his inventory will be for sale online, so non-Michigan members can stay on the lookout for useful parts on his eBay account. Another detail, while he is trying to go to having only Internet sales and not opening the warehouse to the public, he is planning on being open only on weekends for snowmobile parts and what not. According to him, bike guys don't care if they wait for their parts, but snowmobile guys don't have the patience.

I will update this again when I hear back from the owner that he is officially open for business.

Quite a drive you made there from Hudsonville (love the ice cream, btw). I went over there in late Spring to grab a R/R for my bike. Parts guy allowed me to test a few at the counter, and away I went. The building I was in had all bins of parts everywhere. But, the two buildings across probs had a good number of parts in it. They do charge high prices though.

It's funny that you mention the ice cream! The place they make it is in Hollland, and it started out in Burnips (I guess they figured nobody wants ice cream that rhymes with turnips). The family that started it was from Hudsonville.

Anyway, it was quite a drive just to find out that they weren't open at all. He didn't answer the phone or my emails. I will be going back anyway, it's the price I have to pay because I don't like shopping online.

My bike needs a lot of parts (and love), so I'm hoping they have some other good stuff there too. Didn't get to ask what else he had for the XS that I would want. I actually got the bike for $275 from a Harley guy in Mason who had bought it for his son to restore with him.

Well, I can tell you this flat-out: get a list together of all the parts you need, then email it to Andreas. Slick's comes nowhere close to his prices; they'll nickle and dime you to death.

Thank you, Ian and Marco, for your advice! I will definitely talk to him, as soon as I get a list together. Is Andreas the go to guy for oem XS parts or just parts in general? I was hoping to get a set of the ZRX1200 carbs. I have read most of the threads about carb swaps after trying to find parts for the bs34's for the past month.

                          Well, Cameron -

Pretty sure he specializes in XS/XJ1100 parts, but I have seen him post parts for sale that come from other bikes ... Hondas, Suzukis, FZ1, XS850, etc.

Ask him about the ZRX carbs ... hey, you never know!

Andreas is Our "Resident Breaker" if you will, and just may have the carb parts you are in need of.

Check out the Parts for sale section for his post and you can also post in the parts wanted section

Edit: Haha and yah what Marco said ;-)
