To install a XJ tank on an XS, you'll need to cut the stock XS rear tank/front seat mount off the frame and replace it with the XJ part. The front tank mounts are the same. The XJ rear tank mount is 1.25" further back, so you may have to modify the front of your seat pan, definitely the front seat mounting 'tab'. And before you ask, no, the XJ seat won't fit the XS; the top frame tubes are different and the seat will sit too high (among other problems).
