  • Speedo reed switch testing question

    Howdy, anyone who knows,

The latest fixer upper (79F) has a non self canceling turn indicator.
I took the plug under the seat that goes to the canceling unit apart, and hooked an ohm meter to the w/g, and blk pins on the connecter on the wires coming from the speedo.
I read 78 ohms, and when I spun the front wheel, the reading did not change.
Which would lead me to believe that there is something wrong with the reed switch. Since I have to take the fairing off to get to the back side of the speedo, to take it off, or to test at the plug in that bundle of wiring that is there, I want to make sure that the problem is the reed switch.
Has anyone tested the reed switch this way, and is my thinking correct?
    Thanks for any input, CZ

I wouldn't say that means it has to be the reed switch, but you'll definitely have to check closer to the switch. You should get either a zero ohms (or close to it) or open reading, that 78 ohms is suspect. Trying to read it at the canceller will check the whole circuit integrity, but that simply means that you could have a burned/sticky switch or a low-grade short between the white/green and ground, or even to another circuit. More looking needed....

Thanks Steve, just what I didn't want to hear.
