  • cam Chain noise

When I run my 80 1100G I can hear noise that sounds like a loose chain. A guy told I neded to adjust the cam chain follower. Looked in the tech tip section and it almost looks to simple. Question is is there any thing I should be looking for when I do it?

Yes, the cam chain slack adjustment is very simple. Follow the instructions to the letter (i.e. never turn the backwards even the slightest fraction of an inch if you overshoot the mark) and you'll be okay. The other thing you will want to do is use a torque wrench to set the correct torque for both the adjusting bolt and the locking nut. If you get it loose, it could come free at speed and you will almost surely bend one or more valves when the chain jumps a tooth on the sprockets. If you get it too tight, you will strip the soft aluminum threads which leads to the same problem as above. It is a simple procedure to do right, and it is even easier to do it wrong.
