I should be so lucky! Can I strip the trophy under dire circumstances?
At the rate I'm going, I may need another bearing. I'm up to 2 XS's running, 1 almost ready for road test, and an XJ that is too pretty to ride.
However, I have figured out a fairly easy method to clean the bearings, so if they don't come to me trashed, I'll keep them going.

But keep me in the running anyway.

Yep, you can. You could put it in a small glass fronted red box with 'Break in Emergency' on it.

Yes, stripping and cleaning is very worthwhile indeed. I just wish PO's thought that way! They don't ask for much, these hardworking bearings but they seem to live a deprived life.....

What I found interesting is that the lipped spacer collar behind the seal make a handy place to pry the seal out, and the spacer spreads the load out on the seal, and keeps from deforming it. The spring always seems to come off, but it can be replaced, and if the lip of the seal it still good, the seal can be reused.
So all I'm out is some petrol to flush the bearing.
          Sweet! CZ
