  • Lost 2 cylinders spark

My bike has been running really good lately till recently when i developed a bad miss. I pulled the plugs and 1+4 are fine but 2 is black and 3 is wet. I think I must have lost the 2+3 coil but then I remembered I cleaned my bike right before this started (for the first time ever). Could I have water some where in there and if so where?

    Thanks

2-3 would be a coil issue typically. It sounds like you have a coil going bad, or cracked. If it is cracked, it could have gotten wet and caused it to short out internally. Which could give you a very weak spark.

One way to see if it is the coil, swap plug wires between 1 -2 and 3-4. Then under the tank, swap the coil harnes connections from one coil to the other. Meaning, take the red/white and orange wire connector off its coil, and connect it to coil currently on the red/white and grey wire connector. Of course hook the other coil back up to the other connector. This will keep the firing order intact. If you do that and the issue changes to the 1-4 cylinders, it is in the coil. If it stays with the 2-3 cylinders, it could be in the TCI or the pick-up coils, plug wires, end caps. My guess is you see it move to the other cylinders.

There are several options for coil changes. Accell, Dyna, ebay for factory coils to name a few. The UK site has a documented upgrade to use the coils off a Honda VF1000, they are the same for the V30 Magna as well. I am running those on my bike and just installed a set on a fellow local XSives bike. He seems real happy with the performance they give him.

Or you got water in the pickup coil harness and it is shooting out one on the pickups.
