If you have the money for it I suggest getting the carbtune. Very easy, no messing around with celebrating gauges or anything like that. Best motorcycle tool investment in my mind.

If you really want vac gauges, most by them off ebay.
4 gauge setup makes it easier and faster, and just gives better accuracy. Some people pull it off with just a single gauge though.Nathan

For years I used the plenum setup in the tech tips. Only I could never find an aquarium valve that worked for crap, so I just moved the tube from one carb to another back and forth till I got consistant readings. I also used my Mity-vac as the vacuum gage.
It worked pretty well, got good results, and the bike ran and sounded good. Then I got a little spendy and decided to pony up for the carbtune setup. I can now tell you that it does cut the time in half or less. I do hear an improvement in the accuracy of the synch. Not sure I would say the performance of the bike is noticably different, except at idle. But I do hear it idle smoother.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I have a set just like I posted the link to. I synced my carbs with a set of carbtunes and it ran like crap until I resynced with my guages.
I've never seen a Colortune work on these bikes, not with stock coils anyway. All I've ever seen it do is cause a misfire on the cylinder it's hooked to.
I've always used the vacuum guages to set my idle mixture.Greg
